Spiritual Gifts Out of the Box: Infographic on the Basics

Many religious leaders have tried to control spiritual gifts and constrain their operation to areas behind closed doors. Only a limited number of people can operate the spiritual gift of prophecy in a given church service, but all may prophesy in their daily lives (1 Corinthians 14:5 and 29). God’s plan for spiritual gifts is aimed at the common good and involves their widespread use in everyday life. They can be used in the home, the marketplace and the workplace and on the streets. This infographic examines the operation of spiritual gifts.

Earnestly desire the best gifts (1 Corinthians 12:31a NKJ).

1 What are the spiritual gifts? The gifts of the Spirit see in the spiritual realm what God is doing in the spirit and what God wants to do in the natural and physical realms.

1.      Hear and see the spiritual realm

2.      Speak that which was heard

3.      Do that which was seen

2 Who is the source of the spiritual gifts?

Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow (James 1:17). For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:8-9).

3 What is the purpose of the spiritual gifts? The spiritual gifts are given to be used for God’s glory. They are to be used to help each other. As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God (1 Peter 4:10). But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good (1 Corinthians 12:7).

1.       Bring the lost into the kingdom: Many people ate to be brought into the kingdom of God. They will look upon the signs and wonders and say, surely there is a God and I want to be with him. (see 1 Corinthians 14: 24-25)

2.       Edify the body of Christ: When you assemble, each one has a psalm, has a teaching, has a revelation, has a tongue, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification (1 Corinthians 14:26). For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all may be exhorted (1 Corinthians 14:31).

4 Where do the spiritual gifts operate?

Spiritual gifts operate in love (1 Corinthians 13:1-2). The gifts of the Spirit flow out of the love of God. They will show forth his glory and his majesty.

5 For whom are the spiritual gifts intended?

The spiritual gifts are for everyone. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good (1 Corinthians 12:7). For you can all prophesy (1 Corinthians 14:31a).

6 How are the spiritual gifts received?

Those people who are interested in building the body of Christ will accept spiritual gifts and allow them to be used. People who resist the Spirit and the spiritual gifts serve their rigid doctrines above all else. A gift is given, but the gift only becomes a blessing when received. Do not neglect the spiritual gift within you, which was bestowed on you through prophetic utterance with the laying on of hands by the presbytery (1 Timothy 4:14). You have to believe in order to be a vessel for God’s use. Without faith it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6). Let go of thoughts that would bind up the flow of the Holy Spirit through you. But think on those things that God is doing. Good and perfect gifts are coming to you.

7 How are the spiritual gifts activated?

You must put a demand on the spiritual gifts within you. The Lord shows the gifts which he has placed in the people that they might be activated. For this reason I remind you to kindle afresh the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands (2 Timothy 1:6).

Conclusions

Everyone can receive the spiritual gifts and offer himself/herself to be used as a vessel for the spiritual gifts to be poured out to others. Let your eyes be open to see what the Lord is doing in these last days. Opportunities to be used mightily of the Lord exist all round you. You only have to make yourself aware of the spiritual realm and what the Lord wants to do through you. Earnestly pursue the spiritual gifts. Be a blessing to others, and fulfill your calling.

  1. Both of our spiritual gifts and natural talents must be employed in the power of the Holy Spirit and not in the self-energy of the flesh in order to please God In Christianity, spiritual gifts (or charismata) are endowments given by the Holy Spirit. These spiritual gifts are the supernatural graces which individual Christians need too...
